Franco Cipolletti brings together two images of resurrection in a single piece: the Christian tradition and the myth of the Phoenix.
The Phoenix
Reborn from its own ashes
The Phoenix stands for life rising again after destruction. Its presence turns the vessel into an image of transformation, continuity and rebirth.
The Resurrection
Life that overcomes death
The risen Christ appears in front of the tomb, before the fallen soldiers. The Christian image speaks to the Phoenix through the same idea: after death, life rises again.
The inscription
POST FATA RESURGO
The Latin inscription can be read as «after death, I rise again». It links the two main scenes visually and conceptually, bringing classical myth and Christian iconography together in one message.
Landscape, architecture, ornament and figures wrap around the body of the piece, so you have to move around it to discover the whole story.
A one-of-a-kind piece by Franco Cipolletti, made in 2010, in which myth, iconography and ceramics come together around one idea: life rising again.
