Blake Clock
Hand-painted ceramic clock
A small clock with the soul of an ancient contraption: half casket, half little temple, crowned by a pierced dome and golden pinnacles that recall the minarets and lamps of the East.
On its painted sides, time becomes a story. On one, a naked figure opens his arms in a burst of light, as in William Blake’s «Glad Day»: dawn, the beginning. On another, an old man leans out of the disc of the sun towards the clouds, like the «Ancient of Days» with which Blake imagined the creation of the world. And on the last, a figure wrapped in a cloak steps through a dark door, as in Blake’s «Death’s Door».
Between the light and the door, the sun on the dial marks the hours. East and West, craft and vision, brought together in a single object.
