The story of the piece
Two myths, one idea: starting again
The vessel brings together two stories of rebirth: the renewal of one life and the rebuilding of all humanity.
First story
Medea and the youth of Aeson
Medea prepares the potion with which she restores the youth of Aeson, Jason’s father. She gathers herbs, roots and the forces of nature to renew the aged body. The scene shows her as one who knows the secrets of matter and can act on time and on the limits of life.
Second story
Deucalion and Pyrrha
After surviving the great flood, Deucalion and Pyrrha are told to throw the bones of their mother behind them. They understand that the mother is the Earth and her bones are the stones: from those thrown by Deucalion men are born, and from Pyrrha’s, women. So a new humanity begins.
A one-of-a-kind piece by Franco Cipolletti in which form, painting and myth build a single story of transformation.
